Guest Post from Entangled Publishing

This post is more for the followers that are also authors out there, but will be interesting for any of the curious.  Entangled Publishing is getting the word out about what they are looking for in the New Adult category, and how to get it to them!

Excitement grows at Entangled Publishing as we prepare to launch our newest line, Embrace, in July 2013. Devoted to everything New Adult, Embrace will straddle the line between high school and adult, giving voice to characters of that in-between time, when they are legally adults but are still finding their way to adulthood, separating from parents (though maybe still living at home), heading off to college (or not), experiencing full-time work for the first time (or unable to find work), searching for love (and possible partners), and even beginning families.
“I adore New Adult fiction,” says Editorial Director Karen Grove. “And I’m thrilled to see the exciting talent, both new and established, writing about and for this age group. Our writers are defining New Adult, they’re giving voice to this group of emerging adults that has been neglected in literature. This incredibly diverse and vibrant portion of our population is ripe for stories of adventure, heartbreak, yearning, exploration, and courage. We are actively seeking manuscript submissions for this new line, and it’s exciting to pore through this treasure trove of stories just waiting to take wing. We have an opportunity to impact readers—whether those readers are venturing into adulthood or looking back on a time when the world was before them.”
At Entangled, we view New Adult not as a genre but a category. The fact that it’s such a new designation—and not yet accepted by many publishers and booksellers—means that there are many different definitions for what New Adult is and is not. Some believe it means Adult books with similar situations but younger protagonists. Some believe it means Young Adult books with older protagonists…and the implied permission that it allows for more sex and violence. For us, it’s neither…and both.
For Entangled Embrace, New Adult is a category that features protagonists between the ages of 18 and 24 with a unique perspective of having put high school behind and moving into a world of adult responsibilities. Unlike most characters in adult fiction, the New Adult character is facing decisions that are both freeing and terrifying. Even though they are legally adults, they don’t look at the world with the same eyes that you would find in a novel characterized as Adult. These protagonists are not jaded; they don’t have the adult experiences to bring to the decisions they make and the situations they find themselves in. They’re living it all for the first time, and that’s exciting.
Embrace will publish across all genres: contemporary, romance, mystery, suspense/thrillers, urban fantasy, mystery, paranormal, science fiction, historical. Like the world of New Adults, the line will encompass variety, experimentation, and flexibility. And that’s why our slogan is Endless Possibilities. Because the world of the emerging adult is filled with just that.

About Entangled Publishing:
At Entangled Publishing, we believe authors who write great books should receive a majority of the profits. We also believe authors interested in the lucrative indie publishing model shouldn’t have to sacrifice quality editing, commercial covers, or the power of a New York-style marketing machine.
That’s where we come in. Founded by industry-savvy authors and backed by a successful media corporation, Entangled Publishing utilizes a bold new business model to bridge the gap between traditional and indie publishing, giving our authors the best of both worlds. We implement the agency model across all departments at Entangled, which means everyone from the copy editor to the marketing director has a financial stake in your book.

How to Submit to Entangled Embrace:

Guidelines:
•We accept all genres, but submissions should have romantic elements.
•NA novels should be 40k to 100k words in length.
•We are not an erotic romance publisher, however we consider all heat levels, so long as the sexual elements are secondary to the story.
